Dr. Alain Bousquet-Mélou is professor of pharmacology and therapeutics at the Veterinary School of Toulouse. He was trained as a veterinarian and graduated in 1988. He completed his PhD in pharmacology at the University of Toulouse in 1995. His main research interests are pharmacokinetics, pharmacodynamics and modelling in the field of veterinary drugs, and particularly antibiotics. He currently leads a research team that explores the relations between antimicrobial dosage regimens and emergence of bacterial resistances. Alain Bousquet-Mélou supervised (past and present) 14 PhD/Post-doc programs. He has published 68 papers in peer-reviewed scientific journals in the field of human and animal pharmacology. He is expert for ANSES (French Agency for Food, Environmental and Occupational Health & Safety), and he chairs a French working group on the re-evaluation of veterinary antibiotics dosage regimens. As a pharmacologist, he is member of the newly created Veterinary Committee on Antimicrobial Susceptibility Testing (VetCAST), a sub-group of EUCAST.
